Dr. Annika Sridharan, PTR’s Co-Founder and Clinical & Training Director, was recently featured in the New York Times article, “Trouble Focusing? Not Sleeping? You May Be Grieving,” describing common responses to the challenges posed by COVID-19. While anxiety or fear may be the emotions we most readily associate with a global pandemic, grief is also very present: we are grieving what has been lost. Dr. Sridharan explained that processes of mourning and grieving can be further complicated when we are feeling afraid and anxious. She states, “It’s normal and natural to not be able to just go on as usual.” This moment is calling us all to be kind and gentle with ourselves, and to notice all that we are experiencing. Doing so can help us move through this challenge with greater resilience.
