Dear PTR Community, Friends, and Partners,

I am deeply honored to step into my role as the new Executive Director of Partnerships for Trauma Recovery (PTR) here in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Leading this organization is both a profound privilege and a humbling responsibility. Every day, PTR does vital, courageous work—accompanying survivors of human rights abuses, torture, and international violence on their journey toward healing and peace. Standing alongside our resilient clients, dedicated staff, and supportive partners touches a purpose that resonates at my core.

Grounded in Community, Tested in Crisis

If one guiding truth defines PTR, it is that we ground every aspect of our work in serving our community—even through times of crisis.

Over the past two decades, my career in nonprofit strategic leadership—from expanding access to early care and education at Children’s Council of San Francisco to driving community-focused policy and development at SPUR—has taught me a fundamental lesson: strong, trusting community roots sustain resilient organizations. True transformation never happens in isolation. It happens when we show up for one another, consistently and compassionately, especially during times of uncertainty and hardship.

Throughout my 25+ years of strategic leadership, fundraising, and advocacy in the Bay Area nonprofit sector, I have focused on building sustainable, equity-driven solutions. These frameworks allow organizations to weather storms and show up stronger for the people who rely on them. PTR’s commitment to providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed mental health care and policy advocacy offers a powerful example of what it means to put community first. No matter what external challenges or crises we face, our roots in this community remain unshakable.

Poised for Deep, Meaningful Impact

As I step into this role, I feel immense hope for what lies ahead. After a decade of service, Partnerships for Trauma Recovery stands uniquely poised to impact Bay Area people’s lives in real and deep ways every single day.

Healing from international trauma and severe human rights abuses is not a linear path, nor should anyone have to walk it alone. At PTR, we do not simply offer services; we offer true accompaniment. We walk shoulder-to-shoulder with survivors as they rebuild their lives, reclaim their agency, and restore their sense of safety and wellbeing.

My goal as Executive Director is to listen, learn, and leverage my background in organizational growth, strategy, and coalition-building. I want to ensure our clinical teams, advocates, and clients have every resource they need to thrive. Together, we will deepen our existing programs, expand our reach, and amplify the voices of the survivors we serve.

Moving Forward Together

I enter this work with deep gratitude for the community of people who built PTR into the beacon of hope it is today.

To our clients: Thank you for trusting us to walk alongside you on your healing journey. Your strength inspires everything we do.

To our community of donors, partners, and advocates: Thank you for making this work possible. I look forward to connecting with you in the coming weeks, hearing your stories, and working together to advance trauma recovery and human rights.

With warmth and gratitude,

Amie Latterman
